Keep God Outta California!

Sorry, I couldn't resist adding one more today. I'm not a huge Jackass fan (although it has its moments!), but I saw Jackass 2 the other day and this just cracked me up. Now if it was Sacha Baron Cohen, he would have had the balls to do it in Georgia near a Denny's, Applebee's, or Cracker Barrel on a late Sunday morning!

㈱カークだ!

おもろいね、㈱カークって会社がある。もちろん僕とは全く関係ないけど、「カーク」って名前は日本語で珍しくてスター・トレックの船長(またはカーク・ダグラス)以外見ないと思ってた。おもろい!

What's The Harm?

First, I'd like to recommend the wonderful website The Skeptic's Dictionary, by Robert T. Carroll. It's chock-full of great information to help you lead a wonderfully fulfilling life without woo-hoo, hoo-haw, flim-flam, and pshaw. "Pshaw" -- can you believe this word actually dates from the late 1600s?! Hoooo doggie.

Anyway, today's entry from The Skeptic's Dictionary is What's The Harm?. It's an interesting page on the site that talks about how belief in the supernatural and paranormal can have disastrous consequences. People all the time will ask me, "What's the harm in believing in God?" We all have heard about the gross injustices done in the name of religion, not to mention the flummoxing done by psychics and the like. Anyway, check it out if you've ever thought thus titularly.

Next week -- how to get your ivory scrimshaw their whitest.

Over Under God

Yes, another religious polemic. Leave me alone. If I'm going to write on this blog, I'm going to rant about things no one cares about just like everyone else, dang it!

So, you may know that Michael Newdow has been trying to get the phrase "under God" out of American currency and the Pledge of Allegiance on grounds that it violates the separation of church and state, as well as his rights as an atheist. You can read the article here.

Personally, as an atheist, I've never really given it a thought. On its face, I've always thought of it as a relic from an earlier era, used in the same way as Einstein uses "God." However, that doesn't make it right, and I don't agree with the court's contention that it is "patriotic you and ceremonial," and thus OK. I tend to be quite patriotic without ever having to mention the "G" word, and considering with the Pledge especially it was inserted specifically for a religious reason, it's time now we take it out.

What do you think? Er, despite my audience of just me?  Next, I'll rant about why the term "bright" is a joke.

Whew, them comas is long!

Well, after multiple computer wipes (and surely more to come), the numerous pedantic links that I had hoped to force on Internetopolis are lost. I have a few more I'll be posting, as well as some photos of nude monk seals selling drugs to puppies, or something similarly racy and controversial. Meanwhile, stay tuned!
